What’s in a name?

“Mipela” is a Pidgin English word referring to the speaker and other persons. It can be translated as “us”.
Hayden McDonald, founder of Mipela was born in the highlands of Papua New Guinea at Goroka and learnt Pidgin English as a child. Pidgin is a simplified language that develops as a means of communication between two or more groups. The origin of the word “pidgin” is from the Chinese pronunciation of the English word “business”.

6 August 2017 – Annual Kai Kai Day

Mipela staff (past and present) and their families gathered at Roma Street Parklands Forest Meadow in Brisbane’s CBD for our annual informal picnic. Tradition dictates Hayden & Kellie bring a baked glazed ham and drinks with everyone else bring morning tea, cheese, nibbles, salads, bread roles and more that is a feast that requires an afternoon siesta. With kids running around, kicking balls, scootering, climbing trees and just having fun. This year we celebrated Neil Briton birthday with cake and there was a July PRIDE award nomination to Hayden McDonald by Ted Metcalfe (one of the Australian Pipeline Industries Legends).
